The Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association approached The Township with a challenge: people typically vilify gravel pits and quarries. However, what they don't realize is that it takes aggregate to build hospitals, schools, communities. And the closer it's sourced, the better it is for the environment.
This campaign is to educate, but as well to let people know that after the gravel pit is done it is remediated beautifully into farmland, and watersheds. The Guelph Aboretum and the Brickworks are great examples of remediated land.
We used the the trucks hauling aggregate help to educate people, essentially creating moveable billboards. We also created a spot which celebrates the beautiful afterlife of a gravel pit.
